Finding LiFE Opportunities and the planning – Connections between the processes
- Planning for habit change means that people / participants need to think about what their current routine is. When we look at their routine we can start to look for opportunities in which they can embed the activities.
- Initially the therapist will assist in looking for opportunities.
- However before you can make plans using the Activity Planner you need to have knowledge of what the participant does in their day.
- To assist therapists and participants we get them to record their daily routine on the Daily Routine Chart.
- When you take the time to document what your daily routine is you start cuing the idea that they will need to look in all their routines and tasks for opportunities in which they can embed the LiFE activities.
- The therapist should facilitate the process of the participant looking for opportunities in as many situations as they can. It is important that as therapists we are facilitators not just directors of their planned new behaviour. They need ownership to have intent.
INSERT PICS
- The concept that we are trying to develop is not to just reach a certain level or a certain number of repetitions.
- It is trying to have participants understand that they need to always look for ways to challenge themselves and upgrade their activity level
- If they have found opportunities to include the activities in one part of their life successfully then we want them to look for other parts of their life where they can be included.
- Autonomy – as the person gets the idea of what kind of activities we are after you need to encourage them to start coming up with their ideas of how they upgrade or where and when they can start to embed more activities.
